Creativity & Inner Conflict

"Just because you have a creative outlet doesn't mean you resolved inner conflicts". This can be true for many of us, being sometimes we can dull the pain of our wounds by distracting ourselves. However, you can also learn to use your creative outlet so it can become a gateway to being present. What happens in the present moment is magical - Time freezes!

You can take a step back, feel, and observe what is flowing through you…

Is it anger? Frustration? Fear? or is it Joy? Happiness? Apprehension? Is it towards you or someone else? Is there a dissonance you are struggling with?

Thus, the cathartic process of creation comes to the present moment where you can reflect and transform.

A moment where you have an opportunity to accept parts of yourself which you may have rejected or simply left unaddressed in the shadows of your heart so no one can see. Parts of you that are boldly looking for a safe space to be felt and seen, like the Babadook. (If you don't know what the Babadook is, watch the movie - it’s a thriller!).

Feeling discomfort, and moving through it is an imperative part of the creative process and part of your own capacity to move forward in moments of frustration, pain, and trauma.

You can learn you don’t need to react, but rather you can work through it and channel that emotion into your outlet and quickly learn that in that fear, anger, and discomfort is where the gold is.

Just as feelings are passing sensations, "a blank page cannot do anything to you and is only there to support you to grow". That blank white page is full of infinite possibilities and where you can rewrite, re-feel, re-live and express your story in any which way you please. There is no right or wrong because you can always let it go, toss the page, and get a new one to start over. So recognize that carrying the fear of “messing up” is just another way to procrastinate, and yes another way to not be seen and staying stuck in the same emotions. Thus, having a creative outlet can serve as a practice to resolve inner conflict and ultimately transmute emotions in a self therapeutic way.

Often times, it is in the heartfelt passions and frustrations that are locked up in your very own “Davy Jones Locker” that the best work is made.

This…this… is how you build resilience.
