Creating

Humans have a deep need to symbolize their feelings and ideas. Something that witnesses their depth, that expresses their most personal and universal insights. Ultimately, the need to create, to create with a purpose, to express one’s individual perspective.

Over the course of history, art has served as a time capsule to depict perspectives and ideas so they may be shared. In the earliest civilizations, art portrayed spirit animals or Mother Nature, being the main focus for humans was food and survival. Then, as we began to become more evolved and conscious, idols of worship became depicted throughout all religions, as reflected in the cave painting above.

This is a seco painting from 900 AD in Cross Church, located in Anatolia, Turkey. The lengths taken to build this church inside a cave and adorn it with secos high up a mountain in a dry desert like terrain to spread Christianity amazes me! Even more so the lengths taken by Muslims to scratch out the eyes in these paintings in their attempts to “deface” these idols to spread Islam is just as impressive - all in the name to spread ideas and perspectives, to create a world each envisioned differently.

Now as society has has modernized, so has our art and we are now in a place where most artist are free to share their perspectives and find a home for their thoughts where they are equally welcomed. I don’t mean this with just paint and a brush in mind, but also in how we choose to live our lives. Our sense of expression has always directly reflected that through out the evolution of the human consciousness. However, it seems the power to create has fallen behind as the new focus has become the never ending rat race. As people rush to continue their daily routines the practice of creative expression becomes forgotten, almost numbed.

My purpose is to strengthen the creative muscle in others by integrating their mind, body, and soul, so they too can express, expand, and share their perspectives, live with more purpose, and live creatively.
